One Mom’s Story... |

In September 2015, my mom did what no grandma ever wants to do, she called CPS on me because she was worried about the well-being and safety of my four children. At 24 years old, I was pregnant with my fifth child and I knew I needed to make a change. I was using drugs and alcohol and I wanted to stop for the sake of my unborn child.
I first found an emergency shelter, but after 45 days, I needed a new place to stay. That’s when I first found out about the Sheepfold. I was so afraid to go through the intake process, but once I began talking to Kathy, I felt so much better. I was so excited when I found out that I was accepted the very same day.
The House Managers here helped me be a better, more loving, and kind mom. They helped me create a schedule and consistency for my children and my kids started doing so well in school! When it was time to have my son, the House Manager stayed with me at the hospital so I wouldn’t be alone. Sheepfold helped me process all my paperwork and receive my legal status. Last January, I was able to get my first legal job — all thanks to the Sheepfold!
Most importantly, at the Sheepfold, we learned to love Jesus. We learned that He loves us and has a plan for our lives. My children now love going to Sunday school and my two oldest sons and myself have all been baptized.
I am so grateful that my kids and I have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
I am so grateful to all the House Managers who have helped me along the way and to all the Sheepfold volunteers, supporters, and staff for everything they have given me and my kids. Because of the Sheepfold, my children and I are now a family. Thank you!

Love in Action
Speaking from personal experience, single moms often put off their own self-care as part of the sacrifice of putting their kids’ needs first. They are often too busy or tired to take time to care for themselves, and may often appear to be disheveled. Then there’s the whole financial aspect, for which most single moms simply can’t afford the full salon experience. Now, add homelessness and abuse to the equation, and it paints a whole other picture. Not only are they tired and overwhelmed, they are also in survival mode and have forgotten what it’s like to feel pretty.
I recently had the privilege of witnessing our moms being pampered. One of our wonderful volunteer groups brought in three professional hairstylists and a make-up artist. Our kitchen had the appearance, and volume, of a full-service salon! There were blow dryers humming, snacks being shared, and laughter heard throughout the house. Our moms felt beautiful and cared for. When one resident was asked about the last time her hair had been done, she replied “My senior year of High School.” It was such a joy to watch our ladies feel feminine and elegant! I am so thankful for the love that they enjoyed that day.

Love in Action - part 2
A Royal Ranger volunteer group came to one of our shelters to help out. It was fun seeing these young men and their dads be such wonderful role models for our boys. They worked hard and blessed us with their joy. Royal Rangers is a great program and they are welcome back anytime.

The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability
The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability is the respected organization that audits non-profit corporations on a yearly basis to verify that all donations were recorded properly and were used for the purpose for which they were given, and requires a full financial statement for supervision by The Sheepfold Board of Directors monthly.
Membership in the ECFA is only granted to non-profit corporations who meet their rigid standards. We are proud of our long-standing membership in this organization.
